We exist to encourage the next generation of leaders toward a lifetime of ministry.

Pastor Care Ministries exists to encourage the next generation of pastoral leaders toward a life time of ministry. We work to equip young leaders with the tools they need to do ministry over the long haul.

Our Story

These young lovebirds had a lot to learn about the high highs and low lows that would come through marriage, parenting and ministry!

Now our journey has led us to encourage ministry families, sharing wisdom, resources, and empathy we’ve gathered along the way. We love to listen and share with young leaders, especially when we can look them eye to eye and say, “Hey, we’ve been there.”

The year was 1987. Well, just barely.
It was Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday.
We remember because Timberline only did night skiing on national holidays.

We remember being on the ski lift, a romantic, expensive date for two impoverished campus ministers. But it was on that lift that we made clear with one another: we knew this was it. We were it.

He asked, “What do you want your house to be like?”

I said, “I’m not sure what it will look like, but I know I want it to feel like a home, a comfortable, refuge where people feel safe and invited and loved.”

He looked, nodded. “That’s what I want, too.”

Now it is more than three decades later. We’ve yet to have an actual, matching set of furniture. But we’ve heard several times, “I like your house. It feels…like a retreat.”

It’s not just our home, though. We’ve built our lives on being safe—for one another, for our kids, for our family, friends and ministry colleagues, our kids’ friends and friends of friends, etc.

We’ve dedicated our lives to pointing people (believers and skeptics alike) toward Jesus, and loving them in his name. We haven’t always been good at it, but it is our prayer that through us people experience the goodness of God the same way we have experienced it.

We remember the early stages of building ministry, marriage, and family. We remember the stretches where we felt discouraged by one, two or all three of those facets of our lives. We remember feeling desperate for wisdom (a good thing), and filled with suspicion that we were failing. Away from family, we have experienced the value of a listening, encouraging older friend in ministry, who helped us see the difference between normal and…not.

Now we want to be those people to others. We want the Lord to use us in encouraging others who are walking the road we walk.

This is still the heartbeat of our lives, just as it was on the ski lift in 1987.
We want to encourage people, welcome them into a refuge where they can be honest about who they are and leave more aware of the goodness of the Lord.

Pastor Care Ministries exists to encourage the next generation of pastors and families, equipping them with tools they can use for the long haul of Christian marriage and ministry.

We do this in one-on-one sessions, blog posts, in retreat settings, in at-homes* and in resource recommendations.
